Translation / Interpretation service

Apart from being an acupuncturist I have been working for over 30 years as a freelance translator. Translation used to be the basis of my families livelihood, whereas I consider acupuncture my "calling". Since I could make our living on translation, I was blessed with the possibility of pursuing acupuncture treatment policies I view as idealistic.

However, the growing influence of the internet now drains most work into countries, where people can afford to work for a fraction of the usual rates in Japan, thus driving my "ideal acupuncture treatment" into a struggle for existence.

* From now on I am offering my translation/interpretation services directly to clients

Close to 100% of the translation work I did in the past I received through translation agencies. Naturally, those agencies retain their share/margin of the money charged. On top of that, those agencies sometimes have VERY strange concepts relating to translation work.

For these reasons I have chosen to offer my translation/interpretation services from now on directly to clients.

Thus, if anybody has any

* documents related to medicine/pharmacology

* documents related to technical subjects

* patent specifications

* documents related to ORIENTAL MEDICINE (a field, where qualified personal is probably rather rare!)

Translations are done usually at home

Regarding you interpretation needs: please call me with the relevant condition (time, place, subject matter, transportation etc.). Hopefully we can work something out.

(in the past I have been called as an interpreter as far away as Kyushu!)

世界鍼灸学会 － またも文句を言わざるを得ない・・・

ご存知の方も多いと思いますが、全世界の鍼灸学会 (WFAS 2016) は１１月つくばで開催されます。「全世界」のものであるため開設された website は全部英語で書かれています。

さて、そこに問題あります。
恐らくこの英文は日本語の原稿を基にしてそれなり professional translation agency に依頼され、professional translator に作成させたと想定します（そう信じたい）。
残念ながらこの英文に「和製英語」の濃厚な気配が漂っています。
世界学会を開催するならば、出来れば世界のどこで誰を見ても恥ずかしくない文章を作る事は望ましいのではないでしょうか。
以下に2-3点を指摘してみたいです。



１．Technical Session
…　Details will be informed soon.　→　和製英語で意味が通じません。
２．Head of Vice President　→　"Vice President" は非常に限局的（アメリカ）、そして分野＝ビジネスであれば「何人のグループに使われますが、「普通」ならば一人の人物を指しています。妙な印象を和らげるの最低限は "Presidents" （複数形）にすべきでしょう。
３．If you are a member of JSAM, please fill in the four-digit number informed by JSAM.　→　和製英語です。
４．PROGRAM page is updated　→　動詞の使い方！　→　page HAS BEEN updated.
５．Public Seminar
There will be seminar held for ordinary participants.　→　セミナーは単数/複数？ "ordinary" ってどんな人でしょうか。
６．表になっている部分。どのような根拠で "afternoon" だけは小文字でしょうか。

Venue Conference room on the 3rd floor
Contents Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion utilized in the world (tentative)　→　この言葉はここでは使わないし (provisional, temporary)、タイトルないには "utilized" + "world" も大文字すべき。
７．The session will be carried out in small group with limited number of participant. 　→　単数形/複数形の使い方全く分かっていないようです。number of participantS のような間違いは中学のテストでしたら落第です！中学レベル＝義務教育です！



など沢山あります。
このような文章を公表にする前に出来れば専門家に見てもらうべきでしょう。所謂 native speaker を一読頼んで、ビール一杯をおぐってあげる事で話は済んでしまうのに・・・
上記のような義務教育レベルの間違いを見ると、学会の当日に出会うと想定する世界中から来日した方々に私もこの学会の会員である事が恥ずかしくて言えません。
